Allen grew up in a household without his father, living with an alcoholic step mother. He left home at 15 years of age to begin life on his own. Allen's work career has spanned everything from pulling tobacco, building log homes, working on the docks, managing a sales team, and serving as an operations manger for a large christian church, where he also worked as involvement minister and created a large men's ministry group that to this day was one of his most favored accomplishments.
Allen has trained professional and D1 athletes, CEO's, professional coaches, ministers, law enforcement workers, attorneys, surgeons, and men from all backgrounds for fitness, health, self-defense, confidence, and self esteem. Allen has a diverse style of coaching that goes farther than just fitness or exercise.
Allen holds black belts in 5 styles of martial arts, including 6th degree under the later legendary world kickboxing champion, Joe Lewis. This places Allen one generation away from Lewis' mentor, the world renown Bruce Lee.
Allen has a 38-2-2 fight record in a wide range of fighting competitions. He has fought in competitions in boxing, kickboxing, toughman and badman contests, sport jujitsu (precursor to MMA), and point karate fighting.
Allen is a professional boxing trainer and currently trains long time student Josh "Too Tuff" Tufte (17-1, 6 KOs). His team, American Martial Arts Systems, has been featured on ESPN Friday Night Fights and on Showtime.
Allen is also a television morning show regular and provides tips and training information for fitness, weight loss, nutrition, and exercise planning.
Allen has coached football, softball, and basketball. He currently coaches a 10th grade 16U team, The Triad Fire. His goal as a youth coach is to develop respect and confidence first and players second.
Allen created The Man Coach to help men everywhere discover their potential in life, and to reach their genetic potential. Fitness, nutrition, confidence, self-esteem, and self-image are all problems facing men of all ages, and until now, men have really had nowhere to turn for help.
Allen has been married for 25 years to his wonderful wife Olinda and has 2 children- Kinza, 19, and Jeffrey, 16. He lives in North Carolina.
